Academics

At FSU in Florence we offer four sessions throughout the year (Fall, Spring, Summer I and Summer II). A wide range of different classes, ranging from Art History, Humanities, Italian language and civilization, History, Political Science, Mathematics, Business, Fashion Design, Photography and Drawing.

We strive to offer a combination of academics and cultural activities. Most professors will actively use the city of Florence and the programmed visits around Italy as interactive activities; a visit to the Palazzo Vecchio (where the Medici family held court) or a walk to Mt.Ceceri (where Leonardo da Vinci experimented with his flying machine) or the textile center of Prato (with its emerging Chinatown presence) can give a different perspective to each class.

Opportunities

Complementing the academic hours FSU in Florence offers a calendar filled with opportunities oriented towards understanding the complexity of Italian history, art, cuisine, and way of life.

Students can choose to attend any of the numerous field trips scheduled each session. In the past we have taken students on overnight trips to Rome and Venice and on day trips to Orvieto, Assisi, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano, Prato and Pistoia among many other destinations.

Furthermore, our program coordinator organizes a number of extracurricular activities such as the student soccer tournament and classes on painting techniques, mask-making for Carnival, cooking classes, wine tasting and a number of volunteer activities.
